Frequently Asked Questions About The Cultural Competence Committee

Celebrating the diverse viewpoints, traditions, contributions and abilities of all people.

1) What do you folks do in that Cultural Competence Committee (hereafter referred to as CCC), anyways?

Here's the scoop. Read the first line above - Celebrating the diverse viewpoints, traditions, contributions and abilities of all people... breathe... take it in. OK - that's our goal/desired outcome/mission.

2) How do you folks in the CCC do that?

Well that's what we're working together to figure out! One of the ways we hope to "celebrate" is by using this Blog to increase communication among the committee, LDA staff, and people we serve. We want you to know about the exciting things we have coming up, like:

  • Diversity Dialogue: a series of presentations and discussions on diverse topics to promote education and awareness on cultural issues that affect our daily lives as employees and individuals. Be on the lookout for our first exciting presentation in October - we'll see you there!

We also want to let you know about different cultural-related things going on in the community.

3) Sounds interesting. How can I get involved?

You can help by sharing diverse ideas and things to do with us and commenting on what we post. Help us create a community of sharing to enhance learning opportunities...

One part of this Blog will be devoted to sharing items we have that other people might need - strengthening our community. In the vein of Freecycle, we hope that people will post about things that individuals or staff might need and post to ask the LDA community for their help. Also, if you have something that you no longer want, maybe it might find a new home if you posted about it onthe CCC blog.

4) What are the posting guidelines?

We want people to post and comment, however due to this Blog being open to the web community-at-large, we need to moderate the comments to make sure that everything is appropriate. That means that, unfortunately, posts and comments might take a little while to get onto the blog. We'll try our best to review everything as quickly as possible and get it posted.

Also, please keep these in mind:

  • Listen/Read/Post with respect
  • Assume good intentions
  • Make connections
  • Take risks
  • Enjoy!

Let us know if you have any further questions as the Blog gets rollin'!

Sincerely,

Your CCC team: Molly Blackwell, Bryan Little, Amanda Hartman, Pat Willis, Marilyn Kraitsik, Bonnie Smith, Dee Martin, George Wells, Tom Michaels, Steve Jarose, and Cristy Houde
